Malokarpatska Library in Pezinok is the public library which offers the library-information service for the wide range of users without difference in age, social state and professional orientation. It has the function of town, regional and territorial library in Bratislava provincial region.

Library fund of Malokarpatska library contains about 92133 book volumes and other documents (audiovisual, electronic) and 110 sorts of magazines.

Library - information service

The library is open 47 hours a week. The service is provided daily except Sunday. Readers can read some books only in the library and others can borrow for home.The library offers also extra service , the interlibrarian borrowing service, the reservation of books, the reprografical service and the internet.

1. 1. The children department

It makes the literature accessible to the children under 15 (according to the interest also for other categories of readers).

The library – fund contains:

• The books and leporelo ( fairy – tales, short poems...) for children preschool age
• The literature for younger school age ( 6 – 10 years old)
• The literature for older school age ( 11 – 15 years old)
• The magazines for children

The work with children

This department organizes lots of events for the youngest children and also for the school attenders

• The lessons of the library literacy ( how to find out and orient in the fund, the work with online catalogue, how to find out the information in books)
• The debates about readed books, the debates with the writers, ilustrator, editors and interesting personalities ...)
• Dramatization of books – the children with their teachers prepares them
• Competition – literary, artistic, knowledge( for ex. The competition „Find out something about your town“,The king of the children readers“,...)
• The creative workshop for children, they decorate the library for ex. they paint the windows

Department cooperates with basic schools, kinder gardens, school clubs and The social institute for disabled children.

2. The department of belles – lettres and social – scientific literature

attend the readers over 15

The library fund contains:

• belles – lettres
• special literature
• magazines and newspapers

The department organizes the events for adult readers – the meetings with the interesting authors, literatury soiré, lessons of the national information education for students. In the last year The International Festival of poetrie was hold here. 6 foreign authors from Austria, Danmark, Norway, Serbia and Germany took part in it.

3. The reading magazines room, study room and multimedial study room.

The fund of study room can be read only there. There are expensive and valuable encyclopaedias, for ex. Britannica, the Slovak Encyclopaedy Beliana, the digests of laws...
In the multimedial study there are 2 computers for readers. Their role is to find out the information on the internet, in the electrical documents, inter or exter data base, the work with the own text in programme MS WORD and EXCEL – writing of the graduation thesis and s.o. This service use mostly the students.

4. The internet club

offers the internet service for public ( also for those who are not registrated readers of the library). The internet serves only for the finding out the information and e-mail, not computer games.

Readers and users

The service of Malokarpatská library in Pezinok at present attend 3476 registrated readers, from these 1114 are children under 15 and 2362 adult readers.
Adult readers and users are:

• the highschool and university students
• the people in productive age ( the employments and entrepreneurs)
• the unemloyment
• the retired people

Methodical, coordinating and edition activity

The library offers the professional methodical help to 69 public libraries in Bratislava provincial region, to 5 town and 64 municipal libraries in the region Senec, Malacky and Pezinok. It provides education for the professional and volunteer ´s librarians. It publishes the magazine for the librarians of Bratislava region OČK(o) and regional biographies.

The activity of the library is full – automatized. In the library – information service there is an elaborated libraryfund, the borrowed book registration, the readers registration. There is an electric online catalogue for readers to find out the required books. The library creates the internal data bases and makes the external data bases accessible for readers.
